John Clarke Trophy Finals 2010

North Staffs Junior Bowls League held the finals of their John Clarke Memorial Competitions at Knypersley Sports Club on Sunday September 19th.

Our thanks go to Knypersley Sports and Social Club for once again staging this event, with a special "thank you" to Carol and her colleagues for the fantastic refreshments (and the donation of £20 to the Junior League from the raffle), also to Mary and Steve Clarke for their continued sponsorship. Last, but not least, all our measurers on the day who got a soaking for their trouble, in particular Keith Burgess and Dave Stephenson.

The semi-finals were played in steady rain and the green was becoming unplayable, however all the players adapted well.
In the main competition, Meir Social could not make their handicap pay off against the more experienced Leek Bowling Club. In the other semi-final, Tittensor's 3-man team had too much for London Road, despite losing 4 shots from their handicap.

In the supplementary tournament, both Fegg Hayes 2 and Milton Hayes had comfortable wins over Bucknall Private and New Stoke Park 2 respectively.

The weather eased for the finals.
The main competition final started with two tremendous tussles. Leek's Danny Ferris and Joe Watson-Lazowski just got the better of their Tittensor opponents, Sam Bailey and James Freeman with two 21-19 cards. After these narrow losses Tittensor were just 2 points ahead when taking their handicap into account. However the "Tittensor 3" secured the trophy, through wins from Calum Sim who beat Steph Walthall 21-12 and Sam Bailey who won 21-18 against Chris Plant.
In the supplementary final, it was a win for Fegg Hayes 2 who never looked in danger against last year's winners Milton Hayes.
